Term 1- Criteria A assessment
October 2nd 2017
Today we will be starting an assessment where we need to get into groups and work on four different strands together. For this task I will be in a group of 3 people, me - Monica, Rania and Kiyara. Together we will be completing the assessment and we will be diving the four different strands between us so that we divide the workload.Since we divided it we chose that Rania will take strand 1, I will be taking strand 2 and Kiyara a will be taking strand 2, together we then decided to do strand 4 collaboratively.

What is the Nature of the problem?
My friends and I were thinking of a more relatable and educational problem that we all suffer, or at least most of the students suffer from this problem in almost every grade/year. We have come up with a problem that is quite relatable and relevant. It is that History is a really hard topic to focus and understand and learn as many people hate it, because of all the different things you must memorize and learn, and in the majority of the schools they mostly have a thick textbook and a notebook where they put notes to help remember the stuff that was taught in the text book, mostly based on the way a teacher teaches. Many teachers explain a topic and then they let the children do a task that they believe is innovative and cool but it actually requires a lot of analysing and memorising which means that students are put under a lot of pressure. Which, in return, makes students start to find History boring and irrelevant to their everyday life because they believe it is "all in the past" and is unlikely to happen again, when that is, in fact, not true. Because of all the complications and the difficulty level of the subject, we are deciding to use a software called Scratch which allows us to create and program a fun and creative scratch that will be a sort of teaching video which will help children learn topics that they may find are complicated. As well as learning it in a fun and easy way. Since many students in the past have found History lessons boring, there are already a few studies that show why and how students are reluctant to learn this difficult subject. That is how well known this topic is, which makes it even more important, relevant and relatable.
Who is the Problem directed to?
The solution to the problem is targeted to kids from ages 5-19 or so on , because once a kid starts school they start learning History from day 1, even though it is usually much more basic the younger they are. As History is a crucial subject in all schools, so as the grades or years go up, History gets more tougher, difficult and for most, more boring. But for those who can keep up with it, which is usually less than half, might actually enjoy it at times, but many/the majority still don't. The target audience is kids to teenager to even adults as every one has had problems in History. So even adults can use it to teach their children and teenagers can use it throughout their school life which can help them with their test and grades.
Where is the Problem occurring?
It is occurring everywhere, to students in high school, middle school and very primary. To college students and even sometimes to adults. This is a regular problem that occurs at school and the cause is that students simply do not find learning enjoyable. We believe that if students were to enjoy what they learn than the result would be that they would learn better. As stated before, children must start learning well from a young age or else they will be unable to continue forward in their academic routes, and if people are unsuccessful, they can start following a nasty road of theft and other crimes. This is why students being successful in their learning is crucial.
What is the cause of the Problem?
The Problem that we have, is that students are not learning and are justifying it by saying that the subject is too boring. Kids and Teenagers, students alike, are finding it too difficult and cannot understand what teachers are teaching. This is a serious problem because if students aren't learning a certain subject and retaining the knowledge that teachers try so hard to teach them. This can affect their futures and as well as their present because they will get lower grades as they dont understand.
A summary of everything said above:

Secondary research:
For my secondary research, I decided to research on teachers that teach h0tosry but also opinions of different school with their students. Some of my research said that many students lacked in many different topics like British history and the British Isles.According to the information, many people lack due o the teaching they get from school and how they find it difficult causing them to lack in these topics.Other than that there are also other issues as they find it hard to focus on sometimes the fund the teacher or the topic boring which is the main issue that many students in this age face as said in the research of opinions of many students and teachers.

Design Brief :
What I’m going to make :
For this project I will be making a scratch to help people that struggle with certain subjects.I will be only choosing one subject that I will select from the results that I got from my survey.I will be choosing the one that people found the hardest.I will be taking the subject and creating a lesson on one certain topic that I think is important for them to learn about in their age, and something that would be beneficial for them to learn about in history. For this project, I will be using a software called scratch.I will be using the scratch software to create the lesson using the material available.I will be using the skill of coding, to use the sprites and make them able to speak using coding like speech bubbles and events and many other features available on the scratch software .I will be suing different things available on scratch like motion, sound, sprites and costumes to create the lesson.I will also be using backdrops like a classroom or a board to help me create a good scratch project which will be a lesson teaching about the first world war.
Why I'm going to make it :
The reason Im going to do this is that from the survey that I did I was able to ask on what they find hardest why the find it hard, if they like they teacher and many other questions. Most for he people found history as their hardest subject in school. That was then why I chose to do it about History so that I could help the people that found he subject hard for various different reasons.Another reason why Im making it this way is that I think they will then find it more enjoyable to learn about since the lesson is made in a unique way rather than a normal class that you have with a teacher. Also it will be more fun as it is usually fun to learn though lesson through technology especially how our generation is extremely attracted to technology so they will then be able to have fun by using technology but also learning in the same time.
For who:
My audience for this project will be grade 7.I will be mainly focusing on that grade as I think that it where they need to build their historical foundation to learn the more complicated topics in their coming years.A second reason why I chose to do it for grade 7 is that since they wouldn't have much experience in learning history so it would be easier to teach them since they would first have to learn basics.A third reason why I chose to teach grade 7 is that I think that would really need the fun way to learn history since it would be new for them, and I would like to smoothly teach them this subject so that it doesn't become too hard for them.

Outstanding Performance. You usually hand in organized and correctly done assignments in time.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great analysis you carried out. It demonstrates critical thinking, creativity and research skills. You can now post it on managebac. Remember its individual assessment, so don’t include your friends as part of the assessment in you statements.
